Law enforcement plays a key role in protecting and maintaining a healthy and safe community each and every day. As chairperson of the House Appropriations subcommittee on Government & Compensation, Delegate Roslyn Tyler sponsored a budget amendment (HB1800) this year to increase the local aid to police departments across the commonwealth by $1.7 million and supported an increase in pay for local law enforcement officers and 10% increase for State Police. The budget was approved by the General Assembly.
“It has always been my priority to support law enforcement in Virginia. One way of supporting law enforcement is ensuring their pay is attractive enough to retain existing officers and attract new recruits, and I am happy to say that I have done just that,” said Tyler. “This increase in pay guarantees that our officers can do their jobs effectively without having to worry about whether their next paychecks will be adequate to provide for their families and I will continue to support them in the work they do.”
Delegate Tyler has and will continue to support all law enforcement officers in the 75th District and across the state.
“A healthy relationship between law enforcement and the communities they serve means supporting programming that builds those bonds; it is best when law enforcement takes the initiative to host community events, and I was pleased to support a community building and recruitment event hosted by our Virginia State Police in Emporia on Friday, May 21st,” said Tyler. “At this event, members of the community came out to meet our state police, eat with them, see demonstrations by their K-9 units, and learn how they can become a more active partner in building a safe and healthy community. The professionalism shown by the Troopers was top notch. It is my pleasure to continue supporting our law enforcement officers and to serve them at home and in Richmond.”
